After a two-year break owing to the Covid-19 epidemic, Mexico City's LGBT+ Pride March returned Saturday. The parade started at the Angel of Independence monument and ended in the Zocalo, the capital's biggest plaza. Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum appeared at the Angel statue for the march's opening and received a document from LGBT+ activities. In the two years the Pride March was canceled due to the pandemic, LGBT+ participation increased in state legislatures and Congress, leading to legislation protecting their group. According to Letra Ese, 6.5 LGBT+ individuals a month are murdered in Mexico for their sexual orientation.
