Mercedes 2020 Sprinter 144 FWD MWB 314 DIY self build campervan conversion how to.
Welcome to another video in our van build series.
In this build series I have purposely left out in-depth detail as I am not a tradesman of any kind and what I have done may or may not be the best way to do it. However, I mainly wanted to show that with a limited amount of tools and experience, you too can build your own campervan.
In this video I go through the installation of the OEM roof rails.
The roof rails were purchased directly from Mercedes. They did not come with nuts or washers which I purchased separately.
I bought a roll of butyl tape to help seal the holes where the bolts penetrate the roof shell.
One thing I didn't do and probably should have is use a spring washer and locktite to prevent the nut from coming loose from vibration. With the ceiling panels now in place I cannot get access to these. Another alternative would be to use nyloc nuts.
The roof rails will later be used for fixing the awning and solar panels to.
