Most westerners consider Forbidden City of Beijing as Ancient China's representative. However, what if I told you at some point during 7-10 centuries, there settled a metropolis has 3 Royal Palaces, 2 of them 8 times the size of Forbidden City in total, and the entire city occupied 87 km^2; 5 times the size of ancient Rome and 7 times the size of Constantinople (Istanbul)? So here comes the east starting point of the Silk Road, headquarter for both politic and finance of Oriental World, Capital of the most magnificent Dynasty in China, Chang'an!
[IF you find plenty of Japanese elements occurs, don't get confused, they imitated the entire Chang'an City through kentōshi, Japanese missions to Tang China. From architectures to aesthetics, from policies to pharmaceutics, from costumes to cultures.....And you can still find Tang Dynasty's traces in Japan's Ancient Capital, Nara and Kyoto]
And for myself, scenery of Forbidden City cannot be compared with Chang'an. (High saturation of red and yellow overwhelmed everything. Beauty of Chang'an is kind of aesthetics that we lost for nearly a millennia. )
