Red eye is a condition which is caused by swelling or irritation in the blood vessels present in the eye. It is also termed as bloodshot eyes and is indicative of various health problems.
Red eye diseases include conjunctivitis, haemorrhage or dry eyes. Additionally, other categories include episcleritis along with uveitis, angle closure glaucoma and blepharitis.

RED EYE DISEASES
Red eye diseases are the emphasis of this section. Initially, differential diagnosis of various red eye diseases has been put forth. These conditions include conjunctivitis in conjunction with subconjunctival haemorrhage and dry eye syndrome. EPISCLERITIS
Episcleritis is the benign cause of red eye which is caused by the inflammation of episcleral tissues. However, scleritis is destructive and involves inflammation of both the deep episclera and sclera. Additionally, inflammatory changes together with the uveitis and systemic diseases are highlighted. The latter include seronegative arthropathies, sarcoidosis and infections.
