The key is A minor and the meter is compound duple (6/8). Staccato rising broken chord patterns in the melody and the sforzandos give this a rough character. Section B is in F major where the melody moves to the left hand and is a little bit more challenging than section A. The piece is in a rounded binary form but the second section is not marked with a repeat.
