During a brief news conference Monday, Quebec health officials said they would begin vaccinating long-term care residents and staff at Quebec City's Saint-Antoine residence and at the Maimonides Geriatric Centre in Montreal after receiving a shipment of the vaccine Sunday night.
Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu, Health Minister Christian Dubé and Dr. Richard Massé, senior adviser to the province’s public health director, will be present at Maimonides when the first vaccine is administered.
Dubé urged Quebecers to remain vigilant despite the start of the vaccine rollout. “Today is an important day in our fight against the pandemic,” he tweeted. “But we cannot relax our efforts to protect our most vulnerable.”
Quebec reported 1,620 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases and six additional deaths in the last 24 hours.
