World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah created history on Saturday, January 4, by becoming the first Indian bowler to take 32 wickets in a Test series played away from home. The 31-year-old fast bowler, who is leading India in the ongoing fifth Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, achieved the feat by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne for 2 runs in the morning session of the 2nd day’s play. Bumrah has 32 wickets to his name in five Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.
Before Bumrah, the record of taking the most wickets for India in Test series away from home was in the name of former captain and legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi. Bedi finished the 1977-78 Test series in Australia with a total of 31 wickets in five matches. Bumrah had equalled Bedi’s record on Friday by accounting for the dismissal of Australian opener Usman Khawaja.
