Allen Smith of Optimum Service Group stopped by to discuss a range of crop insurance options available to organic producers.
Allen shared about available policies, products and dates relevant to organic growers, provided guidance on how to best choose your coverage, and how to report your production (planted or prevented planted acres) and losses at the end of the year.
Since founding Optimum Service Agency in 2009, Allen has experience in writing organic and specialty crop insurance policies in six states across the Midwest and is committed to understanding and supporting the needs of organic producers.
Below is a list of programs available to specialty/organic producers through the Risk Management Agency (RMA) with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA):
- Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) program which provides a risk management safety net for all commodities on the farm under one insurance policy for any farm with up to $17 million in insured revenue: [ Ссылка ]
- Micro Farm program, improves upon WFRP for smaller producers with up to $350,000 in approved revenue: [ Ссылка ]
- Transitional and Organic Grower Assistance (TOGA) program for agricultural producers who have crop insurance coverage on crops in transition to organic or certified organic grain and feed crops: [ Ссылка ]
