Over winter 2022/23, nearly one thousand people provided views on the Recommended Lists for cereals and oilseeds (RL).
Jenna Watts, AHDB Head of Crop Health and IPM, outlines the key messages emerging from the first phase of the review process:
• The RL remains valued, with personal experience and RL data driving variety decisions
• There is strong demand for new varieties
• Pest and disease resistance is the most important variety feature
• The number of varieties on the RL is about right
• There is interest in more variety data, such as performance under lower inputs, new attributes and regional information
• The RL booklet is well used (with opportunities to develop other outputs)
AHDB reviewing, costing and prioritising opportunities to enhance the delivery of variety information to industry.
Details on how the RL will change, including a timeframe for delivery, is expected to be released this winter (2023/24).
