Violence has taken over the streets of Managua.
At least one-thousand university students clashed with police Thursday during a protest outside the National Assembly.
Police fired tear gas and bullets to disperse the rioting students.
Two students, two Sandinista congressmen and one police officer have been reported injured.
Some 20 people were detained.
The students were protesting Congress' approval of a presidential veto on a university budget bill.
According to the constitution, universities must receive six percent of the national budget.
That six percent was approved by Congress last year, but President Arnoldo Aleman vetoed the resolution.
Thursday Congress ratified Aleman's veto which will prevent universities from obtaining their six percent of the budget.
The students have vowed to continue their protests until the government addresses their demands.
