Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was reelected for a second six-year term, according to the results released by the National Electoral Council (CNE) on Sunday.
The results were announced later that day by Tibisay Lucena, the president of the CNE.
Over 8.6 million Venezuelans, around 46 percent of the population, went to the polls she said.
Maduro was reelected by a wide margin, garnering over 5.8 million votes. His next closest rival, Henri Falcon, received roughly 1.8 million votes and the third-place candidate, Javier Bertucci, received 925,042 votes.
Maduro's victory was announced after the CNE counted around 92 percent of the total votes.
