Three people have been charged during raids relating to the sale of illegal weapons in Western Sydney.
Strike Force Bootle was established by detectives from Penrith Local Area Command in October 2013 to investigate the sale of illegal firearms in Sydney's west.
Throughout the investigation, officers obtained 13 firearms, including three pistols, two shotguns, seven revolvers and a rifle; and various calibres of ammunition.
Following extensive inquiries, police from North West Metropolitan Region, assisted by specialist units, executed six simultaneous search warrants at Windsor, Greystanes, Londonderry, Castlereagh, St Marys and Warilla, about 6.15am today (Tuesday 1 April 2014).
During the search warrants, investigators located and seized five firearms, including four handguns and an assault rifle; various calibres of ammunition, illicit drugs and steroids.
A 55-year-old Windsor man was arrested by officers attached the Tactical Operations Unit and taken to Penrith Police Station.
He was charged with:
* Eight counts of supply pistol to person unauthorised to possess;
* Ten counts of supply ammunition;
* Five counts of supply prohibited firearm;
* Two counts of supply prohibited weapon;
* Conspiracy to commit offence -- supply firearm to person unauthorised to possess; and
* Unlawfully sell firearms three or more times within a 12 month period.
A 45-year-old Greystanes man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.
He was charged with:
* Two counts of supply pistol to person unauthorised to possess;
* Conspiracy to commit offence -- supply firearm to person unauthorised to possess; and
* Supply prohibited firearm subject to prohibition order; and
* Possess prescribed restricted substance.
They have been refused bail and are due to appear at Blacktown Local Court via audio visual link today.
A 43-year-old Wentworthville woman was arrested and taken to Oak Flats Police Station.
She was charged with conspiracy to commit offence -- supply firearm to person unauthorised to possess.
She has been refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
Investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.
