Footage shared on social media showed piles of cars blocking a Valencia motorway in the aftermath of severe, deadly floods that struck southeastern Spain on Tuesday.

At least 95 people have died as a result of the floods, in the deadliest such incident in decades. The intense rain was attributed to a phenomenon known as the gota fría, or “cold drop”, which occurs when cold air moves over the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
