Several weeks ago, I released a positive review on the wildly popular Korean Beauty product: Purito Centella Unscented SPF 50+ PA++++ in the “Dr. Sugai Reviews...” series. I mentioned that there were only two chemical UV filters Uvinul A and T- both of which are not available in the US and not approved by our FDA. Apparently the percentages of both were relatively low as well. Two days ago, INCIDecoder released their test findings with a Polish lab(in vitro and in vivo) and a German lab (in vivo only) and found that this particular sunscreen only has a mean SPF of 19!
Following the release of these reports, many of you have tagged me asking for my thoughts on this controversy. Purito has only released a public statement on their Instagram.
Here are my thoughts on how to address SPF (sun protection factor) testing and answer the question, “Does an SPF19 make that much of a difference vs SPF 30 and above?”
