(29 Aug 2016) Forces loyal to Libya's UN-backed Unity Government claimed to be making progress in their fight against Islamic State (IS) group militants in the city of Sirte over the weekend.
With the help of US airstrikes, fighters claimed to have secured Residential Area Number Two and were seen taking the fight to IS group in their remaining residential areas.
Sirte has been a scene for intense fighting in the last few months between government forces and the Islamic State group who gained a foothold in the country following the power struggle and security vacuum left in the wake of the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
