I’m always looking at new things to add to the channel and an occasional review seems like a good idea. What do you think?
Schwalbe City Jets are a cheap skinwall tyre that you can pick up for your retro MTB. I’ve seen them retail from under £10 a tyre to just touching £20 a tyre depending on where you shop. You’ll have two choices, a 1.5” width and a 1.95” width. These tyres are designed for MTB wheels at 26” / 559 ISO. They are clincher tyres with a wire bead.
So my thoughts? Well in summary, as there seems to be a fair amount of rambling in the video, they’re not my cup of tea. It is nice to have a cheap skinwall tyre for that retro look but I’d much rather shell out for the more expensive Nobby Nics or Maxxis DTH. These tyres went on the bike amazingly well and look like they could have a good amount of life in them but for me, the comfort really let them down. They have a thick carcass with all that smooth rubber for fast rolling but it results in quite a harsh ride. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to take them along the canal path and they’re only meant to be for road but even roads and cycles paths can be torn up in places. For now I will continue to run them on the Rockhopper but I can’t see myself buying another pair.
What are your thoughts?
