Central sensitization is a key mechanism for why people with fibromyalgia feel pain. It is responsible for the high sensitivity that occurs when the skin is touched by something that is not supposed to hurt, but it causes pain (allodynia).

But central sensitization is also present in many other Chronic Pain Conditions like COMPLEX REGIONAL PAIN SYNDROME (CRPS), Migraine, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and even in CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME.
