The 2022 model Sofirn IF22a is a compact Thrower flashlight that produces over 2000 lumens. It comes fitted with a Luminus SFT40 emitter. This is the domeless version of the SST40, but with increased performance. In summary, the IF22a has become my pocketable 'go-to' light for long-distance applications. This is a budget-friendly light with excellent build quality.

Sofirn provided me with this model for review. This flashlight kit came with the light, battery (Sofirn 5000mAh 21700 cell), spare o-rings, USB-C charging cable, 18650 cell spacer, lanyard and manual.
More importantly, while SST40 emitters produce a softer, more diffused beam, the SFT40 creates an intense hotspot capable of throwing up to 670 metres in the Sofirn IF22a. And this comes in a small flashlight that you can fit in your pocket!
the IF22a uses a TIR (total internal reflection) optic with a protective glass cover in order to achieve these impressive throw figures.
I found that using a Samsung 30/40T produced extra brightness/lux readings (+10-20 lux) in this light.
This is the only TIR light that I have in my collection and I was surprised at how intense the hotspot was. It out-throws all of my other lights besides the Imalent MR90 (SBT 90.2 emitter).
You can see the beam clearly, like a lightsaber on a dark night. The optic does a great job to contain most of the light to a narrow beam whilst also creating some usable spill. It's difficult to capture on camera, but that was important to me as I'm not into LEPs for daily carry due to their limited beam profile.
If you want a practical pocket thrower, this is it!

Notes/Transcript:
Observations after using it for a week - keep in mind I use it in urban areas mostly.
• Super pocket thrower! It throws way further than any of my SST40 lights, the only thing that beats it is my Imalent MR90 with the SBT 90.2. But those lights require a large host due to heat.
• I used it down alleyways and dark streets and it allows you to see very far ahead and suss things out. Light is focused, unlike SST40 or XHP 70.2 emitter which has more diffused, flood characteristics.
• Can't remove the head on mind. I stand this light on its head mostly. Feels very stable.
• I found that it is noticeably brighter with a Samsung 30/40T. Compared to the included cell. This was especially true when all cells were discharged slightly. 1lumen did a review of this light and they found throw numbers were a bit short of the 121,000 candela - I think it may reach or exceed this with the 30T. Contains FET driver that apparently can get the highest draw from a fresh battery?
• It charges cells to approx. 4.15 volts according to my multimeter.
Pros:
• High-quality construction (6061 aerospace grade aluminium, hard anodized type 111). Same anodizing to my other Sofirn lights - not really shiny but with a slight matt finish. Square cut threads.
• Smooth ramping
• It lasts quite long on turbo (a few minutes) without ramping down.
• 5-degree TIR optic. Beautiful, smooth beam with smooth edges and no rings. Smaller than IF22 with reflector and similar specs. Glass lens protects polycarbonate TIR lens.
• Moonlight mode
• Bi-directional clip - can use it on your hat too.
• Comes with a battery, clip, charging cable, lanyard, spare O-rings AND 2-year warranty - can't go wrong!
• It also functions as a power bank if you have a USB C to C cable
Cons:
• head of the light is slightly cumbersome for pocket carry, but you can face it upwards, and it sits well.
need to ramp the light up to get a generous spill. If you're in a very dark area, the spill you get on medium mode will be more than enough. The camera doesn't pick it up so well.
