Understanding art styles doesn't have to be difficult BUT you do need to start thinking analytically about the work you view so you can break the style down into its unique elements

Just like a nice meal that has multiple ingredients, the same thing happens with an artistic style, and as the artist is your job to curate and combine different elements to create your style.
You can develop your art style organically over years simple by making art OR you can be more deliberate and intentionally develop a style. Both ways of creating style are valid.
Where you'd definitely want to be able to break down another artist's style is when you are hired to create work in that style! If you can't replicate it then you won't be employed for very long.
Like most skills, this ability to see and break down the different elements of a piece of art is developed and strengthened over time, so if it feels weird or strange in the beginning, that's totally fine - just stick with it and know that over time you will get better and better at this until one day you are able to break down the art styles of other artists easily, without having to think too much about it.
