Apologies about the audio in advance. I took the fast ferry from DAR es Salaam to Zanzibar with AZAM Ferry and I returned with Zanfast Ferry. AZAM ferry's advantage is that they let you sit outside which makes the journey less monotonous. The Zanfast ferry I was on had comfortable seats as the advantage. But I would say even flying directly to Zanzibar even from Dar it only costs $31 and takes less time could end up being less of a hassle. The only major advantage of taking either ferry is the view of the city from the ferry and since all passengers cant go outside the ferry on Zan Fast while its moving thats thrown completely out of the window.

Again for comfort = Zan Fast (so if uve taken the ferry many times and dont care about the view of the city and ocean pick Zan Fast)
For views = AZAM / Kilimanjaro ferry

Journey time is about 1 hour and 30 mins from the ferry terminal in Dar es Salaam. And they have people wash their hands because of covid before the trip but no one was wearing masks when I took the ferry.

IMPORTANT (entering Zanzibar if Non-Tanzanian):
The COVID/PCR tests arent required but you will need to fill in a bunch of forms even if you are an EAC national.
