Professor Nancy Krieger of Harvard University School of Public Health presents her latest research on the links between racial discrimination and the risk of chronic disease. Racial discrimination has been associated with adverse health outcomes such as an increased risk of anxiety, depression and higher rates of unhealthy coping behaviours such as smoking and harmful drinking. It has also resulted in economic costs such as health system expenses, increased rates of absenteeism and poor staff morale.
