Arguably the coolest mathematical function in existence, the Fibonocci sequence is creepily seen everywhere in nature....
From shells to flowers to hurricanes to galaxies. This weird sequence of numbers just keeps showing up.
It's pretty simple: after the first 2 numbers, the next number is the sum of the previous 2.
But why is this everywhere?
The answer is simple. Efficiency.
The Fibonocci sequence has a close relationship to the golden ratio.
Which is the often the most efficient way to pack a given space
So if a flower needs to ensure that all it's seeds grow uniformily,
Competition induced by natural selection will eventually impose this pattern on growth, after millions of generations
However, with hurricanes and galaxies, we have no clue exactly why their spirals tend to take on these proportions...
