The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel's settlement policy in occupied Palestinian territories is contrary to international law.
In 2022, the UN General Assembly requested the court to rule on Israel's prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem.
The Advisory Opinion predates the current conflict between Israel and Palestine.
