Does wearing a girdle help your posture? Wearing one under today's vintage style dresses does tend to give you a better silhouette.
Especially the vintage inspired shapewear like the open bottom girdle, pantie girdle or corselette.
Hollywood, during the 1930's and 1940's, without meaning to at all, brought about a revolution in the field of foundation wear, or shapewear as it is commonly called now.
Actresses practically lived in play clothes. They naturally demanded light-weight figure hugging girdles, bras and pantie girdles. Lastex, with its two way stretch, was the result and they garnered a wide appeal.
What are modern girdles made from?
Most modern shapewear is made from a mix of spandex and Nylon. Much more comfortable than Lastex. In warmer weather, girdles with cotton are preferable.
Girdle Definition :
Mary Brooks Picken defined the girdle as a "flexible, light-weight shaped corset, made from elastic. Worn to confine and shape woman's figure especially around the hips".
