The digital survey vehicle (DSV) is one of the most advanced systems ARA uses for pavement and infrastructure management. It collects high-resolution images of the pavement surface and right-of-way (ROW) while traveling at posted speeds. Pavement surface conditions are captured with a very high-resolution downward facing camera, and three ROW cameras collect images of the surrounding area.
The DSV measures roughness and rutting and cross slope of the pavement surface. The DSV has a global positioning system (GPS) receiver and an inertial navigation system. All data and images are collected in a digital format and geo-referenced with GPS data.
