Elections 2022 and Disinformation in Brazil
Risks and challenges to the Brazilian electoral process in the digital arena
The webinar "Elections 2022 and Disinformation in Brazil" seeks to promote a debate on the challenge of fighting disinformation content in digital media and, at the same time defending, freedom of speech. Recent research by FGV DAPP showed how the narratives of distrust about the Brazilian electoral system from 2014 to 2020 were propagated, posing the challenge of curbing efforts aimed at undermining confidence in the elections. On the other hand, the recent wave of suspension of official profiles by social media platforms in the United States has reignited the debate over the limits of account and content blocking actions and risks of migration from the public debate to other environments.
