In recent years, the Toranomon district has undergone extensive redevelopment in order to create an international business and exchange hub for Tokyo as a world city. Its landmark, Toranomon Hills, is a 52-story, 247-meter-high skyscraper complex that houses offices, commercial facilities, residences, and Andaz Tokyo.
As you walk through Toranomon Hills, you will see art on display in various places. Near the entrance on the second floor is a 10-meter-high seated human art object. In the porch lobby on the first floor, there are five paintings representing the four seasons, each over 6 meters across. In the elevator, there are three-dimensional works of art made from wooden molds of Japanese sweets, including flowers, sea breams, and turtles, all of which are considered auspicious in Japan.
Toranomon, a cat-shaped business robot that came from 22nd century Tokyo in a time machine, is the character of Toranomon Hills. This is a collaboration with Doraemon, a popular Japanese animation character. Incidentally, if you simply translate Toranomon into English, it becomes Tiger Gate.
The guest rooms at Andaz Tokyo have a simple yet sophisticated design that makes use of natural warmth and materials, allowing you to relax as if you were at home. In addition, the 50-square-meter room I stayed in had a wonderful view of the Rainbow Bridge, the Tokyo Bay area including Odaiba, and even the Yokohama area. Other rooms offer views of the outer gardens of the Imperial Palace, the Tokyo Sky Tree, and Tokyo Tower. It is a great hotel where you can really relax and feel as if you are living in a high-rise condominium. The price is a bit expensive, but I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Before checking in, I bought a very beautiful eclair at the pastry store attached to the hotel. Even when I opened the box in my room, I was impressed by their beauty.
