As the U.S. focuses on "getting back to normal," it’s important to pay attention to changes in our mental health baseline and make new evaluations about what is stressful, and how you handle it, experts say. Riana Elyse Anderson, a psychologist at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health, says after the kind of constant stress we’ve experienced over the last year, these reactions are normal.
"Stress is something that lets us know there is an immediate threat. We need to figure it out. Is that a bear coming at me? OK, like what? What do I do with this bear coming at me? We’ve had bears every day for 60 weeks," Anderson said, adding that you don’t have to make adjustments all at once.
