I live in Canada. We have very cold winters over here, and the skin on my hands often gets dry and cracked. This is how I help my skin heal faster. If I have dry cracked skin on my hands, I do this just before I go to bed.
I take some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) and cover my hands with a thick coating, as much as possible. Then I put on vinyl or plastic medical type gloves. I go to sleep with the gloves on. In the morning, I take off the gloves, and wash my hands with a mild hand soap. This removes excess Vaseline. After doing this for a couple of nights, my skin usually feels much better because it has been effectively moisturized.
It may be possible to substitute coconut oil or olive oil for Vaseline (petroleum jelly). Other people strongly recommend coconut oil for dry cracked hands.
The principle: Adapt it as is necessary. Use what you have available in your situation and circumstance.
The principle is to use some good moisturizing agent (Vaseline, pure coconut oil, pure olive oil) and keep it on your skin for a long time. This requires some sort of a glove or bandage. The glove is there to allow you to put lots of moisturizing agent onto your skin and to stop it from wiping off. It is as though your hand is dipped in moisturizing agent for the whole night. The cover doesn’t necessarily have to be a plastic glove. It could be a nitrile or latex glove. If it is a latex glove, make sure the glove does not have powder inside. Just wash out the powder before using the glove. A latex kitchen glove might also work.. However, some people have latex allergies and should avoid latex gloves. It is irritating to wear a glove all day, but this does not cause any problems if you are sleeping at night.
Beauty Tips:
This technique can also be used as a beauty technique. Do this once in a while, and your skin will feel really soft when you wake
up, as though you applied really expensive hand cream.
I would recommend throwing out the gloves after using them for one night, to keep things clean and prevent any bacterial buildup.
This technique works for me. It might also work for other people. :-)
