Tips that worked magic for me ✨👇
1. Annotate your notes: Your notes are not just what the teacher writes on the board. Leave a blank line or two under each concept and use that space or the margins to write little reminders and things you learned, personalized to yourself. This could be verbal hints from your teacher, textbook pages linking the information to your notes (for more efficient searching), or pitfalls you found from missed points on homework/quizzes. This way, you’ve created your own comprehensive study guide without much extra effort.
2. Do spaced repetition without meaning to: Whenever I got work passed back, I would review it immediately. This habit made me “study” by accident because this occurred periodically. If your teacher doesn’t return your work, what I did was proactively ask and often they would expedite their grading.
3. Put your pride aside: Too many students are scared to ask questions to their teacher or friends privately, let alone raise their hand in class. Would you rather appear dumb now or dumb on the test when it counts?
4. Elevate your standards: I was that kid who poured over that 2% I missed when I got a 98%. No, it’s not that I’m a perfectionist, but it’s that I know the 2% is an opportunity. Every point missed is an opportunity and even 98% means there’s room for growth. There’s always room for growth. Elevating your standards includes redefining what “urgency” means to you (which prevents procrastination) and what influences you surround yourself with.
