Citigroup (NYSE:C) CEO Vikram Pandit testified before Congress today on Capitol Hill and began his prepared statement as follows: "I want to thank our country."

Pandit said of taxpayers who still own 27% of Citigroup, that, "We look forward to helping them make money."

In addition, Pandit remarked that the bank has cut the size of its balance sheet by 21% and that it is shifting its focus to "banking" rather than speculative trading.
