How To Write A Research Paper Outline? The key to writing an research paper outline is to focus on the essential parts of the research paper. This guide is useful for those that are interested in research, or college and university graduate students that need a way to develop their graduate research paper. In particular, this is especially useful for people that are interested in how to structure a research paper for a PhD program.
There are eight basic parts to a research paper outline in graduate school:
1. Introduction. The introduction provides a brief description of the problem, how the problem is solved, and the implications of resolving this problem. The introduction is no more than 2-4 pages long. If you want to learn more about how to write introduction in research paper, you should watch this video that I created as part of my Nerd-Out Wednesday series. The video goes into detail about what is a great way to write an introduction for a paper.

2. Literature Review Or Theory. The literature review provides an overview of the relevant theories that aid your hypotheses. The theory section tells a story about why your hypotheses are important to study.
3. Hypotheses. The hypotheses section of a research paper describes the mechanism that you are going to study. It states the constructs that are being studied and the expected relationship between these constructs.
4. Methods. The methods section details the setting, data sources, methods, and how the variables are being empirically measured in the study.
5. Results. The results section tells a simple story. It usually states the hypotheses over again, and suggests whether the research hypotheses were supported or not. The goal is simply state whether they were stated or not.
6. Discussion and implications. The discussion section details usually 2-3 literatures that you are resolving with your findings, and discusses why the findings are important.
7. Limitations section. Make sure you detail all of your limitations!
8. Conclusion. The conclusion is usually a short synopsis of the research paper. Nothing more, nothing else.
The goal with research paper outline is to simply state each part, and provide a short sentence for each paragraph that you expect to write in the paper. I usually like building the research paper outline as I do research, and fill in parts as I large more interesting things about the setting and theory.
Once this informal / rough draft is done, I will revisit the outline with a simpler and more straightforward formal outline of the paper. This outlining and writing might go through several iterations until I am happy with the paper.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
