Considered as one of Australia’s leading women explorers, Kate has cycled a distance of more than twice around the world at the Equator. Kate’s last two major expeditions, 25,000km through Australia and 22,000km west to east across Africa (from Senegal to Somalia) were Official Activities for the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. For the last five years, Kate has been working towards her Breaking the Cycle South Pole expedition, the physical aim of which is to make the first bicycle crossing of the Antarctic continent via the South Pole. So far she has performed three preparatory polar expeditions in Svalbard (Norway), Northeast Greenland and Arctic Canada. In 2018 and 2019, Kate is undertaking a series of six preparatory expeditions - one on each continent (Mexico, Iceland, Australia, the Indian Himalaya, Namibia and Bolivia) - to ensure she is in peak condition (not exhausted) for the main Antarctic expedition.
Kate will begin her next exciting expedition, biking the length of Namibia's Skeleton Coast, in mid-May so classes that take part in Kate's presentation will have the opportunity to follow her six week journey, and engage in the experiential learning program via the platform: www.BreakingtheCycle.education
The second part of the project will be an expedition to electrify a remote Namibian village with solar power. This is set to happen in September, so students will have a another expedition to learn from. For more information about this project: [ Ссылка ]
