The Afghan government is working to secure peace with the Taliban while maintaining its relationship with the international community as France and Australian move to block the release of at least six high-value Taliban prisoners.
Last week, the Afghanistan president signed a decree to release 400 prisoners as part of a negotiation with the Taliban, while France requested that Taliban fighters convicted of killing French citizens not be among those released.
Australia also challenged the release of a former Afghan soldier who went rogue and killed three Australian colleagues.
