In a significant ruling on Friday, a court in Avignon, France, decided that the public can attend the screening of video evidence in the trial of Dominique Pelicot, who is charged with enlisting multiple individuals to rape his heavily drugged wife, Gisele Pelicot. This decision, announced by Judge Roger Arata, reversed a previous ruling that limited courtroom access. Lawyers for the victim called this a "victory."
To ensure sensitivity, the judge stated that an announcement would be made before the video screening, allowing those of a sensitive disposition and minors to leave the courtroom if they choose. Since the trial began on September 2, proceedings have been closed to the public, with live screenings taking place in an adjacent room.
