The Manzanar National Historic Site, which is operated by the National Park Service, preserves the place where 10,000 Japanese, the majority of whom were American citizens born in the United States, were forcibly interned during World War II. Manzanar is one of ten sites in remote locations in the United States that in total housed some 120,000 people.
