Edward Lozansky
Graduated from the National Research Nuclear University and got his Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics at Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. After emigrating to the United States in 1977 he worked at the Laser Fusion Lab at the University of Rochester, NY, and the American University in Washington, DC. When in January 1980 Andrei Sakharov was sent into internal exile in the city of Gorky (now Nizhniy Novgorod) Lozansky and Sheldon Lee Glashow founded the non-profit Andrei Sakharov Institute with the mission to gain Sakharov's freedom.
