A few weeks ago Mark Zuckerberg announced some big changes taking place to Facebook ads and the Facebook news feed in 2018.
It has some marketers freaking out!
And rightly so…
Mark’s announcement confirms that the cost of advertising on Facebook in 2018 will skyrocket!
With the new focus of Facebook moving from ‘helping users find relevant content’ to ‘helping people have meaningful interactions’.
And Facebook will be making a concerted effort to decrease the amount of ‘brand/business’ Facebook ads inside of the Facebook news feed in 2018.
But it is not all bad news…
The promotion of ‘meaningful interactions’ on Facebook will certainly make Facebook a more interesting place for both marketers and Facebook users.
This move makes sense.
If an internet user wants ‘value’, ‘entertainment’ or ‘relevant information’ then they would turn to YouTube, Google or Netflix…
But if they want interactions… then they turn to Facebook.
Facebook has regained its vision and will be heading down that path…
This means that to win on Facebook in 2018 marketers need to think about ‘meaningful interactions’ not just ‘value or entertainment’.
Two tools that Mark hinted would will be working well in 2018 are Facebook live streams and Facebook groups.
So in the year ahead marketers will be re-thinking their Facebook campaigns and their marketing strategies to make the most of these new Facebook algorithm changes.
