Harnessing his observation of an evolving trend in medicine, Michael F. Weisberg, M.D. makes the impassioned case of why it's important to have an advocate with you at the hospital. Dr. Weisberg illuminates the silent yet strong shift that has occurred over the past decade - many doctors are no longer treating their patients at the hospital. One of the most critical changes that has occurred in modern day medicine is the introduction and rapid growth of 'hospitalists,' which are doctors who only take care of sick patients in hospitals. At a patient's sickest hour they may be examined in a hospital by a hospitalist who knows nothing about that person or their family. At some point in your life, you'll either be a patient or someone visiting a loved one in the hospital. Dr. Weisberg encourages us to either be an advocate for a loved one or have an advocate available when you are hospitalized.
Michael F. Weisberg, M.D. is a practicing gastroenterologist in north Texas and has written short stories throughout his medical career. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
Weisberg holds a BA in English Literature, Summa Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston in 1985 and completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
