금수산 궁전 참배한 김정은-리설주... 김정은 "열병식 통해 우리 전투력•단결력 남김없이 과시"
Regarding the midnight military parade in Pyeongyang to mark the 73rd anniversary of its founding,... North Korea's state-run media says its leader Kim Jong-un showed his appreciation for the event.
Also, he paid tribute to the regime's former leaders.
For more, our Bae Eunji is on the line.
Eunji, tell us about how North Korea is evaluating the parade... and how the U.S. is responding.
Well Mok-yeon, the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Friday that Kim Jong-un expressed appreciation for fully demonstrating their "power and unity of paramilitary and public security forces".
Although Kim did not deliver a speech at the parade, the KCNA said Kim held a photo session with some of those who attended.
The U.S. State Department refused to talk more about the military parade but urged the North to resume dialogue.
Asked about it, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said the U.S. is aware of the parade... but Washington has nothing more to say.
He added Washington has no hostile intent towards the North... saying the U.S. is ready to resume dialogue anytime anywhere.
Also to commemorate the 73rd anniversary, we hear the North Korean leader paid tribute to the regime's former leaders - his late grandfather and father.
Tell us more about that... and who accompanied Kim.
To mark the 73rd anniversary of the founding, Kim Jong-un and his wife, Ri Sol-ju visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun,... where the bodies of the former leaders lie.
He paid tribute to his late grandfather and national founder Kim Il-sung... and late father and former leader Kim Jong-il.
Ri's public appearance was her first in nearly four months.
Top officials also accompanied Kim,... including Choe Ryong-hae, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly,... and Jo Yong-won, secretary for organizational affairs of the party's Central Committee.
But the North Korean leader's sister Kim Yo- jong was not seen on any of the footage.
That's all I have for now at this hour.
Back to you, Mok-yeon.
