A local group says it has achieved its goal of 2,428 signatures to put the Waterloo school district's $165 million plan for a new high school on the ballot.

The Waterloo School Board, however, is still moving forward with nearly $15 million in bonds for the new school despite residents turning in the signatures, which caused confusion and objection from the public at Monday night's meeting.

School board officials say regardless of the petition, they still needed to make a decision on those bonds on either way.
