In a back-and-forth game throughout, the North Carolina Tar Heels escaped South Bend with a 74-73 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Trailing by 3 late in the 4th quarter, North Carolina point guard Elliot Cadeau knocked down a 3-pointer while getting fouled and calmly made the foul shot to give the Tar Heels a 74-73 win on the road at Notre Dame. Freshman Ian Jackson had another fantastic game, scoring a game-high and new career-high 27 points on 11-18 shooting in the win. Cadeau was the next-highest leading scorer for UNC with 10 points. Markus Burton returned from injury for the Fighting Irish and had a stellar game, scoring a team-high 23 points on 7-14 shooting while Tae Davis scored 17 points and Braeden Shrewsberry added 16 points in a losing effort.
