For the first time since 1950, August in the Atlantic basin will end with no tropical depressions, tropical storms or hurricanes. There are three tropical waves competing to be the first tropical depression or tropical storm since early July.
The quiet stretch in the Atlantic appears to be coming to an end, but the good news is that land does not look like it should be threatened over the next week. Beyond that, Invest 91L could bring big waves to Bermuda. A disturbance in the north Atlantic could actually become the first system out of the three highlighted to become Tropical Storm Danielle. That system could eventually impact the Azores, Portugal, and Spain towards the end of the first week of September. Nothing appears to threaten the United States through the first 10 days of the month.
The peak of hurricane season is September 10.
