At 5:05pm Derby-504 Called into dispatched reported seeing a large smoke column in the area of 5th st and Olivia st and requested a investigation assignment. While units were being dispatched 504 then upgrade the assignment to a working fire after seeing fire on a roof of a structure While en route. Derby-504 arrived on scene first and found a 2 and a half story residential with the Charlie side fully involved. 502 then diverted to the station to get an apparatus.
After the arrival of units members worked to place a two and a half attack lines into operation and stretching it to the rear of the house. Two other hand lines were placed into service and stretching into the structure. After further investigation of the interior command called for a 2nd alarm due to heavy extension into the structure on all 3 floors. Shortly after the 2nd alarm was called all floors of the rear porch collapsed. A 3rd alarm as then called to bring in additional man power to the scene.
After placing a total of 4 hand lines as well as cutting 2 vent holes in the roof the fire was placed under control after about 45 minutes. Crews remained on scene for around 2 additional hours conducting overhaul and investigation. One firefighter did sustain a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported. The Derby Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
