So, today I want to talk about something that was actually a question I got on my Instagram, which is @Jenny.Eden, and it was in My Stories I said, “Ask me anything” (one of those new features where you can ask someone a question). So, one of the questions was, “When are my breast implants going to become soft?” So, then I was like, hmmm…good question. So, then I actually made a little graphic and put it on my Instagram for everyone to reply to like, “when did your implants get soft?”, and the answers were all over the board. Anywhere from like, 6 weeks to 9 months. So, I hate to say this but there is no right answer. There’s also no wrong answer. Everyone is going to experience their breasts getting softer at different times, and that’s okay, but it’s important that we don’t all hold ourselves to a certain number and then feel disappointed when our breasts don’t feel like we want them to at that point.
There’s also a lot of factors that go into what your breasts are going to feel like post-op. So initially everything is going to be hard and swollen (assuming you go under the muscle), and they’re going to look funny, they’re not going to be what you want yet, right? You have healing to do. This is called “dropping and fluffing”. When you drop and fluff the muscles start to relax up top, allowing your implant to fall into place within the breast, and that’s called “dropping”. When they drop they “fluff” out the bottom portions of your breast. So, it’s important to remember even if you drop and fluff you’re still probably not all the way there yet. For me, I dropped and fluffed quickly, but I still had some healing to do. When you start to heal everything starts to soften up more. The muscles relax a little more. Even if they drop your muscles still might not be 100% relaxed so there’s a lot of patience that goes into this whole thing. You’re going to hear me say that a lot, “patience, patience, patience!”, because it’s so necessary. Because if you are not patient, you are going to get super discouraged, you’re going to feel regretful, and then you’re going to snowball in your mind. But really if you’re just patient and take pictures and see those small little progressions, over time you’ll feel a whole lot better.
So, let’s say they’ve dropped and fluffed and yours feel different than your friend’s. Well, maybe you got saline? Saline’s typically feel a little bit more firm than a silicone implant. Let’s say you and your friend both have silicone implants. Well, maybe your friend got Inspira Responsive silicone gels, those are more squishy. And you got highly cohesive silicone gels, highly cohesive are so form stable that they tend to be more firm than the Responsives. So, your breasts would be more firm than your friend’s, indefinitely. Or, let’s say that you both got the exact same implant, the exact same fill, everything…but yours are a little more firm. It could be that your friend had more breast tissue to start out with than you. You may not have had breast tissue, so you don’t have anything covering your implant to make it feel more natural than your friend does. So theres a lot of things that go into how your implant is going to feel when you’re post-op. So just keep those things in mind when you’re recovering. And also, hopefully you see this video beforehand because it’s important to have realistic expectations upfront before getting your implants. So, take into account all those things- existing breast tissue, the type of implant you get (saline or silicone), and if you do opt for silicone based on wanting more of that squishy, natural feel, go more towards the Soft Touch to Responsive Silicone gels because those are the most squishy. They’re all called “Gummies” and that’s a whole other video, but the highly cohesive’s are going to be more firm because they don’t move as much inside the shell. So just keep that in mind and if you have any questions (because I probably just got you a little bit more confused!), leave a comment below. I’m happy to answer any questions you guys have because I know being confused is the worst place to be when you’re trying to become educated on breast implants and that is not what I want for you! So please reach out, ask me questions, and I’m so happy to answer them for you.
