I'll show you how to user a Harbor Freight (Pittsburgh Automotive) Leak Down Tester and get consistent, reliable results. The problem is how much you have to mess with the tool to get consistent, reliable results.
So I have always figured if I needed a tool that I didn't use often, Harbor Freight was okay. This has been true for a lot of things, but unfortunately this thing pretty much garbage.
- You cannot test over 15psi. Yes, I know the box says 100psi, but the second gauge will not function with anything over 15psi.
- The regulator is EXTREMELY touchy. You need to zero out the 2nd gauge before hooking it up to the engine.
- Unhook it immediately, your gauge will likely no longer be at 0psi. That's bad. Adjust it again. Hook it up again. Repeat until it reads zero when you pull it off the engine.
Most importantly, buy something else. Anything else. This thing is junk.
