Tributes are being paid to Nigeria’s former President Ernest Shonekan, who has died at the age of 85. He was the country's ninth head of state in 1993 before he was ousted in a coup by the late General Sani Abacha. On Twitter, former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki said he had played "a remarkable role in the development of Nigeria." PLUS…The race for the presidency in Nigeria is heating up. With just over a year and half left until President Muhammadu Buhari's term expires, the jostle for succession has begun in earnest. And it reached a fever pitch on Monday when APC stalwart and the former governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu, declared his intention to run for the highest office in the land. He joins a host of other names vying for the position. With elections due in February 2023, political campaigns will go into overdrive as alliances are made and deals struck especially ahead of the party primaries this year. So, as contenders fill the stage, I'll attempt to unpack the several issues on the road to Aso Rock Presidential Villa with representatives from different political parties, as well as our in-house analyst.
