The NSW Opposition is accusing Premier Chris Minns of being the Prime Minister’s lapdog after it was revealed the state stands to lose hundreds of millions in GST dollars.
NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has slammed the federal distribution of the GST, labelling it “absurd”.
Mr Mookhey also expressed disappointment as the new way of dividing Australia’s GST dollars now means a budget surplus for his state is increasingly unlikely.
The state’s AAA credit rating is also delicately poised as Mr Mookhey announced he would be heading straight to the Council of Federal Financial Relations before the close of the week.
“This entire process is absurd ... an absurd system like this cannot last,” the NSW Treasurer said during a media conference on Wednesday.
