OMDis was awarded the Orange River tourism concession in the recently proclaimed Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park, one of the world’s top 25 biodiversity hotspots. Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park has been under a mining license for decades with tourism activities being highly restricted and very limited, therefor high value due to Park’s wilderness status.
The Orange River Concession combines two adventure zones northeast and east of Oranjemund, namely the Guided Adventure Zone north of the main road into Oranjemund. This area is made up with 2000ha of untouched dune sea, which lends itself to 4x4 activities and remote tented campsites. The River Adventure Zone between the main road and the Orange River. This area lends itself to wild camping, glamping and the establishment of a lodge, river orientated activities, experiencing unique cultural heritage of the area, as well as endemic fauna and flora.
The Hohenfels site was identified as the only location in the Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park where overnighting facilities may be constructed. The feasibility study provided evidence-based insights into the tourism environment and highlighted the site's potential as an economic stimulant for Oranjemund.
