How day i'm sharing how to make srilankan Ambarella Curry.
June Plum, also known as Ambarella, is a beautiful
tropical/subtropical fruit tree with large, oval-shaped fruit. The fruit has an apple-like texture and a light flavor profile of apple, pineapple, and mango. June Plum is indigenous to Polynesia and other subtropical to tropical regions, and it thrives in warm weather with cool (but not freezing) winter temperatures. They grow well in containers and are easy to grow in a variety of soils as long as there is good drainage.
June has reached maturity. Plum trees are extremely productive! Long-stalked oval fruits dangle in a dozen or more bunches. The fruits fall to the ground, a few at a time, over several weeks while still green and hard. The skin and flesh turn golden-yellow as they ripen. The flesh is crisp, juicy, and subacid, with a pineapple-like fragrance and flavor, while the fruit is still firm. When softened, the aroma and flavor become musky, and the flesh becomes difficult to slice.
June plums can be eaten fresh while still green, juiced, or made into a delectable traditional applesauce-like dish. This sauce can be slowly cooked down to a thick consistency with the addition of cinnamon or any other spices desired to make a preserve similar to apple butter. Unripe fruits can be turned into jelly, pickles, or relishes, or they can be used to flavor sauces, soups, and stews.
